Melvin Eugene Welch, 87, formerly of Edgemont, South Dakota, passed away on April 12, 2017, at the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home.
Melvin was born July 18, 1929, in Clearfield, SD. His Family farmed in the Winner, SD area before moving to Edgemont, SD. Melvin entered the Army in 1951, and spent some of his time in the service in Germany. After his military service, he returned to Edgemont where he worked for the Power & Light Co. He and his wife Betty owned and operated appliance stores in Edgemont, New Castle and later in Hot Springs. After retiring, they did a lot of traveling and RVing. Melvin has been a resident at the State Veterans Home for about 6 years.
Melvin will be missed by his wife, Betty (Caylor) Welch of Hot Springs, SD; Brother, Glenn D. Welch of CA.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation were held at 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at Chamberlain-McColley’s Funeral Home in Hot Springs, SD.
Services were held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2017, United Church, in Edgemont, SD, Pastor Kori Lehrkamp officiated. Interment was the Edgemont Cemetery.
