Jerry Steenlage of Hot Springs, passed away March 26, 2019, 10 days before his 69th birthday. He loved his family, John Steenlage, Anna Steenlage and Eli Steenlage, their spouses and 5 grandchildren. He loved his wife, Sonja, her children, Liesl Roorda, Britta Dimler, and Kirk Hollingsworth, their spouses and 14 grandchildren. He loved his brothers and sisters, Bob, Les, Cyndi, and Nancy, their spouses and all his nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all of us. We all have wonderful memories of Jerry and how he showed love and interest and strived for a relationship with each one of us.
As much as he loved each of us, he loved God most of all. He had a daily relationship with God, praying throughout his days, listening to God, using life illustrations to show God’s love and grace. God blessed Jerry with many talents: creativity, love for God’s creations, nature, rock climbing, gardening and so much more. He loved serving others with his talents. When we look into our lives and experiences with him, we still see and feel Jerry’s presence, his creativity, his love and concern for others.
The morning Jerry was passing, God gave his wife the words to an old chorus:
What a day that will be,
When my Jesus I shall see,
And I look upon His face,
The One who saved me by His grace;
When He takes me by the hand,
And leads me through the Promised Land,
What a day, glorious day that will be.
Jesus took Jerry’s hand and led him into God’s promised land, heaven. This is a promise to all who believe on Him.
A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held in Britt, Iowa, his home town, at a later date. Memorial gifts will be directed to Camp Hallawasa, an Evangelical Free Church youth camp near Hot Springs, S.D. for children to learn about Jesus and His sacrificial love for all who accept him as Savior of their life.
I am assured: JERRY IS HOME WITH JESUS. Reader, do you have that assurance?
