Roy ‘Doug’ Coyle
June 18, 1925 - November 5, 2018
Roy ‘Doug’ Coyle passed away peacefully from this life during the evening of November 5, 2018. He was surrounded by his loving wife, family and friends during the last days of his life.
Doug was born September 6, 1942, to Roy Douglas Coyle, Sr and Louise (Stacey) Coyle in Gaffney, S.C. After graduation Doug proudly enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam War with Marine Corps 101st Airborne Division Recon and was recognized with a Good Conduct Medal; Expert Badge, Rifle 7.62mm; M-14; Expert Badge, Pistol Cal. 45 and received an honorable discharge in 1965.
After his service he attended Penn. State University for engineering and drafting. He joined the United Association Road Sprinkler Fitters Local Union 669 as an Apprentice and later was one of the first traveling instructors for Local Sprinkler Fitters 669 where he traveled and taught from California to Anchorage, Alaska. The United Association Road Sprinkler Fitters Local Union 669 just presented Doug with his 50 years continuous service award.
Doug met and fell in love with Liz who later was honored to be his devoted wife. Doug and Liz were the happiest when they were spending time together. Doug loved his faithful, beloved wife, family, friends, fishing, prairie dog extermination and Porsche “winning”.
Doug is survived by his children, Tony (Sheri) Spivey of Colorado; Ashley Bass of Pennsylvania; Alyssa Brooks of California; and Jamie Huntington of South Dakota; grandchildren, Sydney; Jesse; Joey; Bevin; Brin; Cassidy; Kendall; Morgan and Keeryn.
Doug was a lifetime member of the American Legion; VFW; Elks Club; Porsche Club of America and Local Marine Corps League.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at the American Legion in Hot Springs.
A memorial has been established in Doug’s name to benefit the Local Marine Corps League, 101 N 5th Street, Hot Springs, S.D. 57747.
Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Hot Springs.
