Old Uranium Mines To Get Closer Look

Based on the presence of radioactive substances in nearby wells, the Environmental Protection Agency next year will investigate abandoned uranium mines in southwestern South Dakota, close to the site of a mining proposal undergoing federal review.
The agency recently completed a preliminary assessment that concluded an investigation is needed to determine if hazardous substances are harming the environment.

Regional Landfill Receives Funding

The State Board of Water and Natural Resources has approved a $450,000 funding package to Custer-Fall River Regional Waste Management District to construct two new solid waste disposal cells at the regional landfill near Edgemont.
The package includes a $151,100 grant and a $298,900 loan from the Solid Waste Management Program. Loan terms are 2.25 percent for seven years.

County Approves Tax Certificate Moratorium

Beginning nearly immediately, and continuing through the 2015 property tax year, Fall River County will not sell delinquent property tax certificates to any third-party individual or companies.

Judge Nixes Soil Referendum

Seventh Circuit Judge Mandel has signed an order prohibiting the county from tabulating votes on the Soil Farm Referendum.
