HOT SPRINGS – A benefit dinner and auction for 12-year-old Hannah McCarthy of Hot Springs will be held Friday, May 4 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Hot Springs American Legion, located at 1045 Jennings Avenue.
The daughter of Will and Jackie Stanley, Hannah was recently diagnosed with a very rare form of Juvenile Granulosa Cell Cancer. Hannah had emergency surgery March 17 to remove a very large tumor, ovary, Fallopian tube, lymph nodes and omentum along with 42 pounds of fluid that had built up in Hannah’s abdomen due to the tumor rupturing. Hannah’s doctors figure this cancer grew within a matter of a couple weeks.
After sending biopsies to Mayo Clinic additional cancer cells were found in her pelvis as well as the omentum around her colon, making this rare cancer even more rare. Hannah’s oncologist has reached out to her colleagues across the country for opinions as this type of cancer doesn’t generally travel to other parts of the body and has in Hannah’s case. As of now the only treatment that has been proposed is aggressive chemotherapy along with frequent petscans and labs to monitor the cancer markers and growth.
The May 4 event will include a free will donation spaghetti feed from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with the auction following at 7:30. Items for the auction, silent auction and bake sale are being accepted. If you would care to donate please contact Jackie at 605-890-1999, John at 605-890-0539 or Kathy at 605-890-2468 or send message.
Some of the incredible items donated so far that will be auctioned off include brand new rifles, shotguns and other firearms and equipment including scopes and ammunition, art, picture frames, vintage dolls, jewelry, antiques, handmade items and lots more.
Hannah’s mom Jackie said this is going to be a great large auction with something for everyone. All donations are tax deductible. “We are trying to gather all donations by the 16th so we can get flyers posted and silent auction items set up.”
